Silvertone guitars were the most popular choice among aspiring guitarists during the post-war decades of the 1940s and 1950s. Their archtop guitars offered luxurious features in instruments accessible to those with modest incomes. This example, with its silkscreened silver logo and Art Deco details, was made in Chicago by Harmony and sold through the famous Sears department store catalog. It features a semi-hollow body with maple back and sides and a Sitka spruce top with an artificial grain effect. The neck is mahogany, and the fretboard is rosewood. It also has a DeArmond floating pickup and an adjustable rosewood bridge.
