The Pearl Session Studio Classic (released in 2013 and popular until its replacement by the Select series) is renowned for its 6-ply birch and kapur hybrid shells, 2.3mm SuperHoop II hoops, and OptiMount mounts. It delivers a sound with a bright attack and controlled decay.
The key to this set lies in the combination of woods. Birch provides a fast attack, bright highs, and great projection, while kapur (a dense wood from Southeast Asia) functions similarly to mahogany, contributing warmth, low frequencies, and controlling unwanted overtones. The result is a pre-EQ sound ideal for both studio recordings and live performances.
