This Marshall JMP head Model 1987 (50-watt super lead) was produced in 1974. This era of JMP is highly prized by collectors and players for its classic, hand-wired, plexi-style tones. Because it is a four-input non-master volume circuit, it relies entirely on power amp saturation for its overdrive. It features two independent channels, each with a high and low sensitivity input jack, this example comes with a modified master output so it would let you crank the tubes without adding excessive volume. To get the absolute best out of a four-input JMP, most guitarists do not just plug into one channel. You can “jump“ the channels using a short guitar patch cable to blend the voices of both preamps.
The cabinets are two different versions of the same line, corresponding to the 1960B straight-through model. The one on the left is the “Lead – 1960 JCM900“ which has Celestion G12T-75 speakers, and the one on the right is the “1960 Vintage“, with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers.
