Gibson Les Paul Neil Young 1956 “Old Black“ Murphy Labs (2025)

From Gibson’s Murphy Lab came a faithful recreation of the legendary «Old Black,» Neil Young’s inseparable 1956 Les Paul Standard. This model meticulously preserves the original specifications: a mahogany body and neck with a rosewood fretboard, initially finished in gold top, like all Standards up to 1957, which was later given a black finish, giving it a look closer to that of a Custom.

The bridge P-90 was replaced with a Firebird mini-humbucker, and an extra selector switch was added, allowing direct bypass of the bridge pickup to the output jack, avoiding the influence of the volume and tone controls.

Its hardware includes an ABR-1 bridge and a Bigsby B7 tremolo in a nickel finish, as well as Schaller M6 tuners and a pickguard. The neck profile is narrower than that of typical ’57s, approaching the slim taper characteristic of the 1960s.
