This model began production in 1957, following the introduction of new pickups created by Seth Lover, called PAF (Patient Applied For). These dual-coil pickups were designed to cancel unwanted noise caused by electromagnetic interference from lights. This model replaced the previous custom “Fretless Wonder“, which featured P-90 pickups in the bridge position and a “Staple“ pickup in the neck position. 1960 was the last year Les Paul models were manufactured, as they were replaced by the new “SG“ line. Production of the earlier models ceased until 1968. With its solid mahogany body and neck, this guitar features a thin neck with a slim taper profile, typical of the era, Grover Rotomatic tuners, and an ABR-1 bridge. Its three-pickup configuration allows for a wider range of tonal possibilities.
