Originally designed in 1922 by Lloyd Loar, the L-5 evolved over the following decades to become the standard of excellence for jazz and big band guitarists. In 1940, this model was already recognized as a luxury guitar, with a handcrafted construction that offered acoustic power, aesthetic elegance and incomparable sound projection.
The Gibson L-5 is a semi-solid guitar and was the first to feature F-shaped acoustic holes.
It was originally produced with a 16-inch wide body and later with a 17-inch one, making it just a little smaller than the larger Gibson Super 400.
