Gibson Flying V Jimi Hendrix Murphy Lab (2020)

This model recreates the Flying V that Gibson designed for Jimi Hendrix in the late 1960s, a project that was never released due to Hendrix’s death. Its construction combines a mahogany body and neck with a narrow, 60s-style Slim Taper profile and an ebony fretboard.

Among its details are the split-diamond mother-of-pearl inlays, medium jumbo frets, and two Gibson Custombucker pickups that deliver a classic and versatile tone. The hardware includes an ABR-1 bridge with nylon saddles and a Maestro Short Vibrola tailpiece, elements that reinforce its vintage character.

The guitar features a handcrafted relicing process performed by Gibson’s Murphy Lab, which accurately reproduces the natural wear and tear of the era. Even its hardshell case was recreated following the original patterns, with fabrics identical to those used in Hendrix’s outfits, in floral designs and pastel colors.
