This guitar is from the first year of production of the Explorer model, originally presented as the «Futura» at the 1958 NAMM convention. Only 19 units were completed for that event, all crafted from Korina (African Limba) wood. Its radical and futuristic design was not well-received at the time, leading to its discontinuation until 1976, when it was reintroduced with different specifications.
This particular model features a mahogany body and neck, a rosewood fretboard, and jumbo frets. Its gold hardware includes an ABR-1 bridge, Deluxe tuners, and Tar-Back pickups, designed by Bill Lawrence, which contribute to a distinctive sound.
As a unique detail, this guitar was signed by Kirk Hammett, guitarist of Metallica.
