Launched at the Gibson factory in late 1960, the Standard became a key model in the new line. It featured a rosewood fingerboard with crown inlays on the mahogany neck, a neck joint at the 22nd fret, a double-cutaway mahogany body with beveled edges, a cherry finish, two humbuckers with a standard four-control configuration, and an «angel wing» shaped pickguard beneath the pickups. In 1963, it included the Vibrola Deluxe with the lyre logo. Initially called the Les Paul Standard, with that name on the headstock or truss rod cover (all these models would later be known as SG/Les Paul), in 1963 the model was officially renamed the SG Standard.
This guitar was used by Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top during his performances in Buenos Aires and in recording sessions with the Fernández Fierro Orchestra. In November 2023, he recorded the album «Viejo Rocker» with them at La Roca Power Studios.
This guitar is treasured in the vault at La Roca.
